The historic Lohia Maidan, which has been refurbished and beautified by the government, will play host to the Goa Revolution Day official programme on June 18.
The Maidan, however, will be inaugurated at a later date after the beautification works are completed in all respects.
Addressing the media, the 18th June Kranti Din Samiti president Avinash Shirodkar told the media on Wednesday that the Goa Revolution Day will be celebrated at the Lohia Maidan this year. “Dr Ram Manohar Lohia’s statue is in place at the Maidan. Similarly, the freedom fighters memorial is in place. Work on the stage is also complete,” Avinash said.
While thanking Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for initiating the beautification of the historic maidan, Avinash said the inauguration of the Lohia Maidan will take place once all the works are completed in all respects.
He said that Transport and Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho will preside over the Goa Revolution day celebration at the Lohia Maidan.
The contractor engaged by the Goa State Urban Agency (GSUDA) has already installed the statue of Dr Ram Manohar Lohia at the maidan.
Meanwhile, Avinash pointed out that the 18th June Kranti Din Samiti will hold a host of programmes at the Lohia Maidan on June 18 evening, including an essay writing competition, patriotic songs singing completion etc.
