Marathi activists to protest at Azad Maidan tomorrow

The Marathi language activists will be protesting at the Azad Maidan on the eve of the Goa Revolution Day (June 18). In spite of the proposal for Marathi to be offered the status of the State language of Goa in the Goa State Assembly, and a proposal regarding this demand being handed over to the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, nothing has been done so far, lament the activists and hence decided to show their protest on June 17 from 10 am to 1 pm at Azad Maidan.
A decision pertaining to this was recently taken unanimously at the Marathi Rajbhasha Samiti meeting.
The meeting held under the leadership of G R Dhavalikar, convenor of Marathi Rajbhasha Samiti had the presence of former Union Law Minister Adv Ramakant Khalap, president of Gomantak Marathi Academy Pradip Ghadi Amonkar, Divakar Shinkre, Prakash Bhagat, Vyankatesh Vishwanath Naik on the dais.
Though Marathi is the State official language, it is not being used in government affairs. This is an injustice to the language. The MLAs who win on the basis of Marathi lovers, he does not take any side for the uplifting of the Marathi language in the State Assembly.
Konkani has been allotted Rs 12 crore in this year’s budget but Marathi has not been given any grant, stated Prabhakar Dhage. When it is compulsory to offer primary education in the mother tongue, the teachers in Marathi schools should interact in Marathi, said Vyankatesh Naik. Pradip Ghadi Amonkar appealed to all the Marathi lovers to remain present on the occasion.
