Social activist Abhijit Prabhudesai and co-convenor of Goyant Kollso Naka, which had spearheaded the anti-coal agitation along with Goencho Ekvott, has asserted that the government may hurl stones on the protesters or implicate them in false cases, but they are all committed to stand by the people of Goa to protect their land and environment.
After coming out of the Margao Civil and Criminal Court, where he along with activists Vikas Bhagat, Diana Tavares and Freddy Travasso pleaded not guilty to the allegations levelled by the Railways, Abhijit expressed his shock that the government is prosecuting its very people out to save the State from destruction, further demanding to know whether the Goa government is working for the people of the State or for the Coal corporates.
“Let the government do what it wants to do, but we have done our Constitutional duty for the people, for the villages and for the country by highlighting how the three linear projects would cause destruction to the people and its environment,” Abhijit said.
He added: “The government may throw stones on us or implicate us in false cases, but we will stand by our people. We will protect our land and the environment, come what may.”
He said the government should do soul searching by asking itself a question for whom it is working, for the people or for the coal corporates.
