In preparation for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Election Commission of India has announced the polling schedule, marking the initiation of the world's largest democratic exercise. The polls will span over seven phases, covering 44 days, commencing from April 19. The counting of votes is slated to commence on June 4. 

A staggering total of over 97 crore voters, will cast their votes across 10.5 lakh polling booths.

As India gears up for the Lok Sabha Elections 2024, citizens must possess a valid Voter ID, also known as an Election Photo Identity Card (EPIC). To obtain a Voter ID, the individual must be a citizen of India, aged 18 years or above, and possess a permanent residential address. Here's a comprehensive guide on how to apply for a Voter ID both online and offline, along with eligibility criteria, required documents, and other essential information:

1. Visit the official website of the Election Commission of India: https://voters.eci.gov.in/

2. Register for a new account or sign in if already registered.

3. Select the 'Fill Form 6' option under the 'New Registration for General Electors' tab.

4. Complete all details on 'Form 6', upload necessary documents, and preview before submission.

5. Verify entered details and apply.

Alternatively, citizens can opt for offline registration by filling out two copies of Form 6, available free of cost at the offices of Electoral Registration Officers, Assistant Electoral Registration Officers, and Booth Level Officers. The completed application, with the relevant documents, can be submitted in person or sent by post to the concerned Electoral Registration Officer.

Documents required for Voter's ID include:

- One passport-size colour photograph

- Identity proof which includes Indian Passport, Aadhaar card, PAN card, or driving license

- Address proof which includes an Indian Passport, ration card, electricity bill, or property tax receipt

- Date of Birth proof such as an Indian Passport, high school mark sheet, birth certificate
