Announcing that the 2024 Lok Sabha election will be his last poll in his political career spanning over four decades, sitting South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha on Sunday called for support for his candidature if the Congress nominates him for the South Goa seat.

He was addressing supporters and workers at his Curtorim residence on the occasion of the distribution of three-wheeler scooters for the differently abled persons on Sunday.

“The people of South Goa have stood behind me and elected as an MP on four previous occasions. I have decided to contest the South Goa seat for the last time after many of my well-wishers requested me to seek re-election. I will require your support if the Congress nominates me for the South Goa seat,” Sardinha said.

The MP dished out statistics on the projects he has executed during his five-year stint as MP representing South Goa. Saying that he has distributed about 46 three-wheeler scooters for the differently abled persons, Sardinha said the objective was to make these unfortunate people to be independent.

Saying he has distributed computers and laptops to schools in the villages across the constituency, the MP underscored the need to provide all the amenities to the village schools to make the students competitive in the modern world. “Besides, I have built around 3-4 playgrounds, around 4-5 cemeteries, three gymnasiums, besides CCTV cameras and concrete slabs,” he told the people.

The South Goa MP pointed out that he has already exhausted the quota of funds under the MPLAD scheme. “Besides the funds allocated to me under the MPLAD scheme, I have also utilised the funds amounting to Rs 2.60 crore left behind by my predecessor,” he said.
