While on his visit to Canacona to hand over keys of houses to 20 beneficiaries under the ‘Shram-Dham’ initiative, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla visited an Ashram School, where the Balram Education Society (BES) runs a residential high school at Amone-Poinguinim.

On seeing a large number of young school students lined up and cheering his entry in the Ashram School Complex, a visibly moved Speaker Om Birla cut short a photo session, got down from the stage and walked towards the children for an interaction.

Birla mingled with the students, shook hands with some and began to ask their names. He also enquired about their studies, whether they liked their stay in a residential school and their ambitions in life.

Later, while addressing the function to hand over keys of houses to 20 beneficiaries under the ‘Shram-Dham’ initiative, Birla making a reference to his visit to Ashram School at Amone and said he was really impressed at the huge school complex in a remote area.

“Tawadkar-ji has built such a huge and magnificent residential school complex in a village which is not there even in many cities. I spoke to students there, and realised that it’s not only education and culture, they are also learning to achieve the dreams of their lives by studying in that school,” said Birla.

The Ashram School at Adarshgram in Amone, on the outskirts of Poinguinim village bordering Cotigao village, was built under the Tribal Sub-Plan of the Central government scheme, two years ago.

The sprawling complex also has two separate hostels for girls and boys.
