The day-long Lok-Utsav-cum-exhibition at Raia on Sunday showcased the rich heritage of the village, including culture, music, dance, food etc.
Organised by the Barebhat Social and Cultural Association, Raia, the programme gave a platform for the locals to showcase their talent and homemade Goan food and sweets.
As local Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco and Goa Forward chief Vijai Sardesai along with Association president Romaldo Gonsalves went around the stalls put up at the programme, they duo gave a call to the government to protect the rich cultural heritage of Goa.
“The Lok-Utsav at Raia showcases our cultural heritage. The government, including the Tourism department and Art and Culture, should support such programmes in a big way to protect Goemkarponn instead of funding events,” Sardesai said.
Vijai called for a permanent venue for the Mull Goemkars to showcase their culture and diet for posterity.
Complimenting the Barebhat Social and Cultural Association for holding the Lok-Utsav for the last many years, Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco said all efforts will be made to preserve and keep alive Goa’s culture. "Otherwise, a day will come when children will fail to differentiate buffalo from a cow," he warned.
Association President Romaldo Gonsalves said the Lok-Utsav has helped the people to showcase traditional Goan sweets, besides dance and music.
