UC Seraulim beat Guirdolim Club 8-7 via tiebreaker to move into the quarterfinals of Guirdolim Panchayat Cup at Church Ground, Chandor on Sunday.
The match started with Guirdolim dominating proceedings and exerting pressure on the Seraulim defence but the strikers were unlucky as they were denied on 3 occasions by the goalpost in the first half. In the second half, it was again the Seraulim defence and the upright which kept the Guirdolim strikers, led by Hayden Fizardo, at bay.
As the match ended goalless during the regulation time, the match was decided by kicks from the penalty spot where UC Seraulim proved to be the better shooters scoring 8 penalties while Guirdolim could convert only 7. Adriel D'Souza was adjudged Man of the match for his good performance in defence and for saving the last penalty kick.
Sub-jr State hockey championship at Peddem
Goans Hockey will organise sub-junior State championship for boys and girls from Feb 8 at Peddem Astro Turf, Mapusa for North Goa and Seraulim Ground for South Goa respectively.
Players born on or after 1/1/2007 onwards are eligible to take part in the championship. Teams desirous of taking part in the tournament may send their entries to Carl D'souza (8806661890) and Dattesh Pirolkar (7020427140) for North Goa, while for South Goa entries can be submitted to Inacio Fernandes (9075926350) and Anjulo P Fernandes (9822135577) on or before February 3.
