Leading from the front, the Loliem-Polem panchayat conducted a two-day cleanliness drive in a bid to promote cleanliness in the village.
The elected representatives led by village sarpanch Ajit (Ajay) Lolienkar collected over 300 bags of garbage collected from all nine wards of Loliem-Polem village.
“We have successfully cleared garbage from all nine wards and now, it is up to villagers to maintain cleanliness,” said a panch Nishant Pranhudessai.
Added Sarpanch Lolienkar: “I request all residents of Loliem-Polem panchayat not to throw or dump garbage of any kind anywhere in the open. We have made a special provision for residents to dump all garbage near the village crematorium at Madditolp/Loliem.”
Dy Sarpanch Jessica Corte also appealed to residents to help the panchayat in keeping Loliem-Polem village clean and green.
There was widespread appreciation to the panchayat’s initiative, with many claiming that such efforts would help keep the village surroundings clean and garbage free.
Others lauded the sarpanch and panchas for their dedication and resolve to tackle the garbage issues, adding that it would sent an example for other panchayas in the State.
