Representatives of the villagers of Guirdolim on Monday had discussions with officials of Indian Railways on the question of clearing the debris from the Folli lake.
Former Sarpanch Agostinho Antao and Marcelino Fernandes of Folli, Guirdolim met the Railway officials in the office of Deputy Collector Uday Prabhudesai and brought to the notice of the deputy collector to the mud which the Railways have dumped at the Folli lake outlet.
While the Railway officials insisted that work on clearing the mud debris from the lake has commenced from Saturday, both Agostinho and Marcelino disputed the claim, saying the mud is still lying at the Handi of Folli lake, further adding that the rivulet of River Kushawati has not been cleared completely.
While the duo said the lake is still blocked, the Railway officials were insisting that it was cleared. However, when the duo produced photographic evidence before the deputy collector, the Railway officials informed the deputy collector that the work of removing the mud is in progress and assured the representatives that the same would be done by May 20.
Both Agostinho and Marcelino later told the media that the villagers of Guirdolim and Chandor will chalk out the future course of action if the mud dumped at the Handi of Folli lake is not cleared by May 20. “We have set May 20 as the deadline for the Railway officials to clear the debris from the lake. We have no objection if the Railways carry out the work in the Railway property, but they should clear all the debris from the Folli lake by May 20 or face action,” Agostinho warned.
