LoP slams govt decision on private medical college

MARGAO
Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao on Friday questioned the rationale behind the Cabinet’s decision to set up a private medical college at the South Goa district hospital, saying the decision has exposed the government’s failure to equip the district hospital with manpower and equipment.

The Opposition leader said that it has been a consistent demand of the Congress party that the district hospital should not have a private medical college. “The South Goa district hospital was initiated by the Congress government in 2008-09 with the sole objective of providing basic medical care to the people of South Goa. Sadly, what we have witnessed in the last 10 years is the BJP government meting out step-motherly treatment to the district hospital. We are totally opposed to the government’s move to set up the private medical college at the district hospital,” he said.

When his attention was drawn to the announcement made by the Chief Minister of forming a Trust comprising of himself, Opposition leader and MLAs to oversee the functioning of the medical college, Yuri said the government must come clear what it wants to achieve for the people of South Goa through the private medical college.
