Loutolim panchayat members seek tenant verification drive

MARGAO

With the village witnessing an influx of migrants, Loutolim deputy sarpanch Celina Antonieta Braganza and ward 6 panch Antoneta Fernandes submitted a memorandum to the Maina Curtorim police to conduct migrant/tenant verification drive in the village.

The request made by the panchayat members and villagers assumes significance after the citizens found as per the information furnished under the RTI Act that only 377 tenants are registered with the police when hundreds of migrants are staying in the village.

In the memorandum, the duo has requested the Men-in-Uniform to carry out the tenant verification drive so that the village has a safe and friendly environment.

“We also seek to collect the data of the tenants who are already registered in our village which are still existing and have not migrated to anoother village,” the memorandum stated, even as they promised to extend support and cooperation for the drive.

The delegation also called for timely updation of records every six months to one year since the tenants staying in the village are construction labourers, coming in and going out for various work purposes. "We need to approach the various contractors in our village and seek their data,” the memorandum added.

Maina Curtorim PSI Prashant Bhagat said the police will conduct the tenant verification drive at the earliest. He pointed out that the tenant verification is an ongoing exercise and will be intensified with the help and cooperation of the panchayat members and villagers.

Sources pointed out that the tenant verification drive has been asked by the villagers given the rising crime.
