After a gap of two years, Goa Football Association's Third Division League got underway at St John the Baptist Ground, Benaulim on Sunday.
The Third Division League was not conducted in the recent past despite the central government's relaxation for hosting sports events, following Covid-appropriate behaviour, issued across the nation. This year, the championships will be conducted in the whole State. Meanwhile, teams have expressed happiness as GFA will provide bottled water for the games.
Bardez Veterans book quarters berth
Bardez Veterans easily outclassed Viva North Goa Veterans 5-0 to cruise into the quarterfinals of the All Goa Parra Veterans football tournament held in the memory of Peter D’Souza at PVC Parra ground.
Leading by a goal at the breather, Bardez Veterans netted a goal each through Mathew Gonsalves, Shailesh Miskin, Casmiro Monteiro and Gavin Araujo. Menino Mirnada of Viva North Veterans was adjudged the Man of the match.
Navelim VU rally to down Rossman Cruz
Down by a goal at the breather, Navelim Villagers Union defeated Rossman Cruz Nagoa SC of Verna 4-1 to enter the final of the Bro Eulalio Vas inter-village football tournament played at DBO ground, Fatorda on Sunday.
Andrus John gave the lead to Rossman Cruz SC in the 11th minute. In the second session, Meliston Dias and Terance Dias scored a brace each for Navelim Villagers Union to secure a come-from-behind win.
Raia Sporting beat St Rock's YSC 3-1
Raia Sporting Club defeated St Rock’s YSC of Calata Majorda 3-1 to enter the quarterfinals of the Martins Cup inter-village football tournament organised by Betalbatim Sporting Club at Betalbatim Panchayat ground on Sunday.
Sweden Barbosa gave the lead to Raia Sporting in the 16th minute of the match. In the second session, Joy Quadros and Sheehan Fernandes scored two quick goals to take Raia’s tally to three goals. Kevin Almeida reduced the margin for St Rock’s YSC. Sweden Barbosa was adjudged as the Man of the match.
Caitano elected SC Davorlim president
Caitano Costa beat Francisco Colaco by 21-12 votes to become the new president of Sporting Club of Davorlim at the club's election held at Davorlim on Sunday. The election was necessitated following the resignation of Filomeno Costa from the post of president.
Inter-gym futsal tournament on Jan 8
Goa Gym Owners Association and Gym Owners will organise Inter Gym Futsal Championship on January 8, 2023 (from 8 am) at Futsal Arena, Football ground, Nagoa-Arpora Circle. The championship trophy was unveiled in Vasco on Sunday. The event will include futsal tournaments for men and women who are members of the gyms associated with the Goa Gym Owners Association.
