A LPG cylinder explosion at a hotel in the congested Rumdamol Housing Board triggered panic in the locality on Friday evening.
Though no one was injured in the LPG blast, the explosion has left two cars parked in an adjoining place damaged. While the property in the shop housing the hotel was reduced to ashes, the raging fire also partially damaged the adjoining shops.
The incident occurred at around 7 pm when a LPG cylinder exploded in the shop which is housing a hotel cum restaurant. Another LPG cylinder found in the shop had a crack on it, indicating that the cylinder also exploded in the fire.
Fire Officer Gill D’Souza informed that the LPG exploded due to leakage, saying that no one was injured in the accident.
The fire officer impressed on the need for the shops to install fire extinguishers to start fire-fighting before the arrival of the fire brigade.
Meanwhile, Navelim MLA Ulhas Tuemkar, who was in the Rumdamol Housing Board when the LPG cylinder exploded on Friday evening, informed that he would have a meeting with the Rumdamol sarpanch and officials after reports pointed out that the fire brigade encountered difficulty to ply on the main road because of rampant encroachments.
Tuemkar told the media that the meeting with the village sarpanch would evolve a solution to the encroachments on the main road hampering vehicular traffic.
Ex-panchayat member Saimulla Faniband said that the panchayat had issued notices to those who have been found doing business on the main road, adding that the panchayat would now crack a whip against the encroachers.
