Narrating the incident to the police at the Vasco police station, the girl’s father said the incident took place as he along with his wife and their toddler were walking towards the railway station.
“I was carrying some luggage and my wife was holding our daughter’s hand, as we were crossing the road near the court.”
“Near the court, a bus had stopped for passengers to alight and then, the vehicle unexpectedly moved ahead and grazed our daughter. Luckily, my wife had still held our daughter’s hand and quickly pulled her aside in time,” the father told the police.
The toddler sustained some injuries in the incident and on receiving information of the incident, Vasco PI Nolasco Raposo dispatched a PCR van to shift the girl for medical attention at the Chicalim Cottage Hospital. She was later referred to GMC Hospital in Bambolim for further check up.
“The doctors at GMC conducting the tests and stated that my child is safe and gave some medicines for her minor injuries,” said the father.
In the meanwhile, PI Raposo said the police had detained the bus driver in the connection.
“We were waiting for the parents to register a complaint to initiate action against the driver. However, when the girl’s father visited the police station, he did not wish to register a complaint as the child was safe,” said PI Raposo.
“We then asked the father if he had plans to seek compensation from the bus owner or driver for the minor injuries sustained to the toddler. The father again declined to demand any compensation, saying that the impact was on the cleaner’s side of the bus and the driver may not have sighted his 2-year-old daughter,” said PI Raposo.
The Vasco Police later took suo moto cognisance of the incident and booked a case against the bus
driver.
