A major tragedy was averted on Monday after a large branch came crashing down on a temporary stall along the Swatantra Path on the eve of the Damodar Saptah festival.

According to the Vasco Fire Services, workers of the stall had gone for tea when the branch came crashing down on the stall and hence there was no casualty.

The roof and the rods used to erect the stall were damaged. A Vasco fire brigade went to the site and cleared the road. Meanwhile, sources at the Vasco Fire Services said they attended to around 12 calls on Monday.

“Two trees fell on a house belonging to one Clarissa Fernandes at Bogmalo, while a tree fell on a mini tempo near Prince Bakery at Sada.”

“A coconut tree fell on electrical wires and on the road near the Railway Foot bridge at Mestawada, a large branch fell on the road near St Theresa school and a large boulder rolled down on the road between Sada and Harbour.”

“We cleared the stone from the road, but subsequently noticed that three trees had uprooted and were partially on the road. We cleared these as well,” said the source.

The source added that a coconut tree fell on a building shed near Harhar building in Merces Vaddem, while another branch fell on a compound gate near the petrol pump in Chicalim.

“Another tree fell near the Prime Enclave building at Chicalim, a compound partially collapsed near Hollant and another tree fell near the Corporation Bank along the FL Gomes Road in Vasco,” the source added.
