Lumpy disease is currently rampant in the country. Due to this, cattle are dying in large numbers. The disease is increasing rapidly in states like Karnataka, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu. Hence, the importation of milch cows from these States to Goa has been stopped.
Lumpy disease-related cattle have been found in Keri, Sattari taluka and has sparked an atmosphere of fear in the area.
Citizens claim that grievances in this regard are not being taken into consideration even after making complaints to the Veterinary Department.
Locals have expressed the possibility of the disease spreading in Sattari taluka if special attention is not given to the problem. Meanwhile, local MLA Dr Deviya Rane has demanded that special attention should be paid to this matter and the citizens have claimed that if there is an outbreak of Lumpy disease in the area, its consequences may affect the milk business of many people.
Lumpy disease causes large spots all over the cattle which can lead to the death of the cattle. Due to this, the Goa government has stopped procuring dairy cows from other states and giving them to the farmers.
A large amount of milk is produced in Sattari taluka. After the government's order, milk production in Sattari taluka has decreased to a great extent.
