Margao Municipal Council’s plastic baling  project went haywire over the last few days after two of the three  baling machines broke down.

Municipal officials were waiting for technicians from  Mumbai to attend and repair the machines which are still under the  warranty period.

Baling of plastic at the Sonsodo site came to a complete  halt since the last two days after the new bailing machine broke down following a technical snag. Last week, the old bailing machine, which was  procured by the Municipality around December last year, had stopped  functioning because of a technical snag.

In fact, baling of plastic waste transported to the  Sonsodo came to a halt on Friday after the brand new bailing machine,  which was purchased only recently, broke down.

Left with no option, MMC officials sent an SOS to the  company in Mumbai to deputy its technicians on priority as all plastic  baling work at the waste dumping site has come to a standstill.

MMC officials in the know exuded confidence that the  technicians will undertake the repairs on Saturday, and hoped that the  two baling machines will be resume work in a day or two.

The Municipality had gone for the new baling machines as  the lone machine had failed to meet the requirements. Plastic bailed at  the Sonsodo site is later transported to the cement factories in  Karnataka.
