Stating that the controversy over the primary teachers selection had given Goa a bad name, Goa Forward Party President and former dy chief minister Vijai Sardesai on Friday said nepotism in the education sector has to be resisted.

Sardesai was speaking to reporters after attending the Teacher’s Day function as chief guest in the Keshav Smruti School at Dabolim.

“Education was of paramount importance in the government earlier, at least till the time it was ruled by former CM late Manohar Parrikar. He had mantained that education should be the bedrock of our economy.”

“We were then trying to create educational estates in the State, so that Goa would develop as a knowledge destination and contribute to the Goan economy when tourism and mining sector was down,” said Sardessai.

“But sadly, there is a controversy in the selection of teachers in Goa and this is a bad thing to happen and gives Goa a bad name. If there is a controversy in the selection of the teachers, it is because the ruling party want to put its Mahila Wing into the teachers ranks and if this happens, we will have bad generation ahead.”

“We should not tolerate this injustice and since Goan society is socio-politically conscious, this issue should be raised and nepotism in the education sector has to resisted by all.”  “I hope this government will retract from its slumber and not do injustice to students and teachers by recruiting of unqualified teachers,” added Sardesai.

Sardessai claimed that unqualified teachers are the biggest bane.

“I think this is what is happening in Goa at the moment. A new government has just been formed and we can give benefit of doubt in case they make some mistakes because the government is in a honeymoon period. But education is not a field to play around with because this will destroy the future generations,” said Sardessai.
