Madel residents halt road digging, cite collector’s ban

MARGAO
The Madel area of the Margao Municipal Council witnessed uproar after local residents along with Ward Councillor Francis Joanes stopped road digging work of Adani Gas in the locality.

The Ward Councillor pointed out that the South Goa district Collector, Egna Cleetus has issued an order prohibiting road digging activity in South Goa jurisdiction. He demanded from the supervisor whether the company has the requisite permission from the district Collector’s office for the road digging activity.

Since the company officials failed to show the permission for road digging, the locals demanded that the site supervisor stop the activity and restore the land to its original position.

The MMC Ward Councillor pointed out that the company was carrying out the work of road digging when the district Collector had banned the digging of road in view of the ensuing monsoons. “As it is, the road going to Madel from the main Margao-Colva is narrow and the digging of the road has further restricted the road width. We have told the contractor to restore the road to its original condition,” he added.
