PANAJI
Slamming Health Minister Vishwajit Rane’s outburst over the power tariff hike, Power Minister Pandurang Madkaikar hit back at him calling him “irresponsible” and “immature” while claiming that Rane should, instead, worry about many problems at the Goa Medical College and Hospital.
Reacting angrily to Rane’s threats that thousands of people would take part in a candlelit rally in Panaji in protest if a decision regarding reduction in power tariff is not taken by April 30, a livid Madkaikar retaliated by threatening to sit on a hunger strike along with people of his Cumbharjua Constituency if the problems at GMC are not resolved within 30 days.
Responding to Rane’s strong condemnation to hike power tariff and his demand to keep the power tariff hike in abeyance till Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar returns to the State, Madkaikar said Rane had made irresponsible statements.
“Rane is a part of the State government and is my colleague as minister, but he doesn’t know how to talk and act. He has acted irresponsibly by making allegations against my Department and has also exhibited his immaturity,” said a visibly annoyed Madkaikar, while speaking to The Goan.
“The Joint Electricity Regulation Commission had raised the power tariff and a decision was taken when Parrikar was in Goa.”
“If Rane doesn’t know anything about the working of the electricity department, he should not be making statements. Instead of wasting his energy on power issues, he should first focus on improving conditions at the GMC,” Madkaikar struck back.
“There is no proper water supply in GMC complex and patients are not getting beds and medicines. People of my Cumbharjua constituency often complain to me and said they would begin a hunger strike to highlight these problems,” said Madkaikar.
“If the sorry state of affairs at the GMC hospital are not resolved within 30 days, I will sit along with my people of Cumbharjua constituency on a hunger strike,” warned Madkaikar.
