Accusing the Congress of having given the nation nothing but corruption and immorality during the last 55 years, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday said the Modi government at the centre had, on the contrary, created a new India.

Fadnavis was addressing a large gathering at a public meeting organised by the Sakhali BJP unit in the Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav mandal hall at Sakhali, as part of the campaign for North Goa BJP candidate Shripad Naik.

“Schemes implemented by the Modi government have reached the needy people, irrespective of caste, religion or social status. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already announced that in 2022, when the country completes 75 years of Independence, every poor person will have a home. What Modi’s government wants is only houses for the homeless.”

Appealing to people to vote for the BJP, the Maharashtra chief minister said, “this is not gram panchayat, municipal or zilla panchayat election, but we have to elect a government for the country. Therefore, we should decide in whose hands the government will be safe.”

Fadnavis said the Congress party had given the nation nothing but corruption and immorality during the last 55 years, while the Modi government has created a new India.

He went on to add that speeches by Congress President Rahul Gandhi had more of humour and should not be taken seriously.

“The Congress party’s Nyay Scheme provides a poor person with Rs 72,000 per year, but Gandhi himself was not sure from where the money would be sourced. When Gandhi was asked at a news conference about the source of fund for the scheme, he was confused and began looking at former finance minister P Chidambaram,” said Fadnavis.   Chidambaram claims money flowing from central coffers can be distributed to the people. The money has accumulated only after Modi started acting against black money,” he said.   Highlighting the various schemes which have benefited people, the Maharashtra CM said the Ujala Gas Yojna had benefited 13 crore families, while under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan 98% of people have their own toilets.   “The Ayushmaan Bharat has benefited about 20 lakh people, while the farmers’ scheme led to transfer of Rs 75 crores into the saving accounts of farmers,” Fadnavis said.   Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, former chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar and union minister Shripad Naik also spoke at the meeting.
