Goa Pradesh Congress Mahila protesting over the hike in the price of LPG cylinders at Margao.
MARGAO
Goa Pradesh Mahilas led by president Pratima Coutinho on Tuesday staged a protest on the footpath of the Margao Municipal garden to highlight the plight of women with the hike in the prices of LPG and to demand a rollback in the prices.
In a novel protest, the Mahila Congress workers squatted on the garden footpath with chulla and cooked puris and omlette, questioning the silence of the BJP Mahilas including Union Minister Smriti Irani over the rising prices of essential commodities.
Addressing the media, Pratima demanded that the government should deposit Rs 10,000 in the account of women to facilitate them to run the households.
“The LPG cylinder has gone up to Rs 783, the highest in the country. Petrol and fuel prices are rising by the day when the international prices of oil is comparatively down,” she said.
The Mahila Congress has warned the government that the women of Goa will teach the BJP a lesson in the election if the prices of the essential commodities are not rolled back immediately.
“Women are facing it difficult to manage their homes due to the COVID pandemic. Seafarers and other NRIs have returned home because of the pandemic. People have lost jobs in Goa and are yet to receive calls from the employers. In such a situation, the BJP government has only aggravated the situation for the people, making their lives miserable by hiking the prices of LPG cylinders”, she added.
