The Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress (GPMC) on Wednesday slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party Mahila Morcha for its silence on the advertisements of the nude parties that have been doing the rounds on social media.
Mahila Congress chief Adv Pratima Coutinho, who addressed a press conference at the Congress headquarters demanded why the BJPMM was silent, despite having their party in power.
“What happened to your sanskruti? Are these parties a part of Goan sanskruti? The BJPMM should have been the first ones to raise their voices,” Coutinho said.
The GPMC went on to slam the Pramod Sawant-led Goa government for not taking a firm stand against the nude parties in the State, and questioned who was giving these organisers permission to have these parties in the first place.
“Nobody has the right to come to Goa and hold parties without permission. Who is giving them permission?” she questioned.
She went on to say that these kinds of parties were not new, and that the latest party advertisement doing the rounds on social media was not the first of its kind. “These parties have been taking place for a long time. We don’t want bad tourism. We want good tourism. Let Goa be a family destination, not a sex destination,” she said.
Explicit digital posters advertising a “nude party” with foreign and Indian “girls” in the Morjim area had sent officials and the State administration in a tizzy on Monday, and forced the police to launch an investigation to get to the bottom of the whole episode.
The digital poster which first surfaced on Sunday and explicitly promised to offer ‘unlimited sex’ went viral on social media platforms on Monday and caught the attention of CM Sawant, who ordered that the police conduct a probe to get to the bottom of the story. According to a top police officer, Crime Branch had also been asked to conduct the probe.
