A musical tribute to the masterpieces of yesteryears

#TG Life

Goa goes ‘Classic’ at Favela this Sunday Swing to the classics of Engelbert and more such legendary artists from the 60s and 70s as the hosts are set to pay a unique tribute to the musical masterpieces of yesteryears. The mid 1960s to the late 1970s was the era of the LP and the ‘golden era’ of the album. Most of the songs from this era proved to be much more memorable than tunes released in the 21st century.

Favela has been a pioneer in bringing the melodic hits from the good ol’ times to Goa, ever since the time it stepped in the live music scenario. In order to test the waters and see if there was a void for these genres of music, Classic Circus was launched recently, and it emerged to be a huge success among the lovers of this particular genre of music.

“This will take you back to the 60s and 70s. For me, that’s when the music was at its best. I have grown up with it and I have always loved that music. I am singing it now for you and I hope you all enjoy it the way I do,” says the lead singer Raul D’mello.   To commemorate the efforts and this new take on the Classics by Favela, an international music video was recorded to accompany Raul and Friends’ rendition of the Engelbert classic ‘Love me with all of your heart’. This video which features a beautiful foxtrot sequence by Dr Martin D’souza and Flossy, is produced by Chasing Dreams and directed by Kevin Alvares, in association with Growth Gravy, Sublime Pix and Counto Motors Goa.

On September 29, Classic Circus promises to be different, as it has evolved into something far bigger and better than its previous editions and will keep evolving as the show goes on. This edition at Favela, promises renditions of newer songs and will cover a vast genre of music right from musical virtuoso, Engelbert, as the band Raul and Friends will perform their renditions of Engelbert in a special set. Some other artists whose tracks they will be performing are Frank Sinatra, Engelbert, Stevie Wonder, Billy Ocean, Elvis Presley, Los Lobos, Billy Joel, Billy Idol, Elton John amongst many others.

Classic circus will be showcased at Favela in Baga from 9 pm onwards this Sunday, September 29.

Raul D’mello sees himself as a musical crafts person who has created a new kind of a classic retro show, experimenting to capture the vagaries of his love for the music of the mid-1960s, with his peers singing along to the good old classics. He has previously worked with renowned Indian composers like Ranjith Barot and Louis Banks. The band consists of Daryl on the piano, Diego on the bass, Jonathan on the drums, Jules on the guitar and Anika and Sanchia singing to accompany Raul on the lead vocals. The artist in the spotlight at this event will be Engelbert who has been

a major figure in music for nearly three decades. Engelbert Humperdinck has won the hearts of listeners throughout the world with his silky voice, sense of humor and stellar live performances. Humperdinck became a music sensation in the ‘60s with hit songs such as “Release Me (And Let Me Love Again),” “Am I That Easy to Forget?” and “Love me with all of your heart”.

Among his achievements are several Grammy Award nominations and a Golden Globe for Entertainer of the Year in 1988. Like Tony Bennett, Humperdinck has been discovered and appreciated by a new generation of music fans, and he continues to entrance audiences with his exceptional tracks that still reverberate in most of the Goan households till date.
