With an a.im to take tough action against illegal activities along the roadside, Anjun panchayat in a public notice has warned owners of food carts and others who have encroached on public spaces to remove the encroachments within 15 days or face action. “The general public and concerned owners of food carts have to remove the hand carts/ kiosks/ carts/ temporary stalls and other encroachments kept on shoulders of the road/road widening/general public areas or open space within a period of 15 days,” said Anjuna sarpanch Savio A
lmeida.
“Failure of removing the encroachments can result their in confiscation of their carts, kiosks, temporary stalls and other material and the same will be sold in an auction,” he added.
The notice has been issued under Section 73 of the Goa Panchayati Raj Act, 1994. The sarpanch said the panchayat decided to take this action because such activities disturb public peace and further destroy the image of the coastal village. He said the panchayat will act tough on offenders and strict action will be taken against those who fail to lift their material within the time limit.
It may be recalled Anjuna panchayat had recently taken proactive action to remove garbage from all the wards in the village. Almeida was personally supervising the cleanliness drive in the village. Garbage bins were also distributed to individual homes to facilitate door-to-door waste collection.
