In a double whammy for Bardez, a major water pipeline was damaged at Duler in Mapusa on Wednesday evening even as millions of litres of water were wasted.
A 700 mm water main pipeline supplying water from Assonora treatment plant to various constituencies in Bardez was damaged near the petrol pump in Duler.
The PWD officials rushed to the site and after inspecting the area were forced to shut supply of the main line at Assonora treatment plant.
Areas that will be affected are Tivim, Mapusa, Siolim, Aldona, Calangute, Saligao and parts of Porvorim.
PWD engineers immediately took up the work to repair the pipeline. “Our men are on the job and will work throughout the night to repair the pipeline. Water supply will be restored tomorrow morning,” said V M Chavan, EE-PWD (Water).
