MAPUSA
A day after PWD Minister, Sudin Dhavlikar claimed that works of Rs 121 crore has been sanctioned to upgrade water supply infra for Bardez, many parts of the taluka went without water.
Hit with water woes on Wednesday, on the eve of
Ganesh festival, many residents were on edge hoping that water would trickle through their taps.
Aldona and several parts of Mapusa went without receive pipeline water from Tuesday evening onwards.
Locals from Acoi, Mapusa, complained that their taps were dry for the last three days while residents from Carrasvaddo, Mapusa said they did not get pipeline water from Tuesday evening onwards.
“It’s a bit cruel not to receive water supply when we are set to celebrate Ganesh Chathurthi in Goa. How can the department be so callous? Will they reduce our water bills for failing to deliver service,” asked Reshma Chodandkar from Duler, Mapusa.
Some parts of Mapusa received truncated water supply after the PWD officials were flooded with complaints on lack of supply.
Congress spokesman and a resident of Aldona, Amarnath Panjikar appealed to the authorities to at least restore the supply partially.
“Tomorrow is Ganesh Chaturthi and today we have no water supply in Aldona. Will the authorities concerned and others who are holding the responsibility of Aldona constituency act and restore water supply, at least partially?” asked Panjikar.
In an official note, the PWD department said that due
to some major electrical
fault at Assonora water treatment plant, there will be restricted water supply to Bardez and parts of Bicholim on September 12.
Sources, however, informed that there were some issues with water pumps at the Assonora treatment plant.
On Tuesday, PWD Minister, Sudin Dhavlikar said there were plans to release 5 MLD additional PWD water to all the seven constituencies in the taluka.
He further said that Rs 121 crore has been allocated for improving the infrastructure of water supply in Bardez which was expected to be completed by 2019.
