Main power supply
line snaps, Mapusa
plunges into darkness
MAPUSA: On the eve of the New Year, Mapusa town was plunged into darkness after a main power supply line from Tivim to Mapusa snapped at Duler at around 7.30 pm.
Besides Mapusa the villages of Assagao and Anjuna were also affected due to the power failure.
“The main line from Tivim sub-station to Mapusa has snapped at Duler. Our men are at the site and working to restore the supply as early as possible,” said C H Rajgopalan, Executive Engineer, Mapusa Electricity.
He said it would take at least two hours to repair the line and to restore power supply to the town.
Luckily most other parts in Bardez had normal power supply.
“Thankfully we have had no problems in power supply. I believe Mapusa has no power supply,” said Oldrin Pereira, a resident of Aldona.
Tivim resident, Vidhyadar Bhagat said there was no problem of power supply in the village.
A resident of Assagao complained that power had gone off in the area from 8 pm onwards. Coincidentally, he said there was massive power fluctuation in his village on the eve of Christmas too.
By 9 pm power was restored in the market area of Mapusa but many other areas in the town were still in darkness.
