Electricity department had to face major losses due to the cyclone Tauktae that hit the State on Sunday, uprooting around 700 electric poles and impacting 200-300 transformers and the department may take months to restore the power supply and bring things to normalcy, informed Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant.
The CM was addressing media persons after conducting a high-level review meeting to see the impact of cyclone Tauktae in Goa. The virtual meeting was attended by various government officials, ministers concerned and department heads.
“I have issued directions to all the State government departments to work on war footing to restore essential services and also assess the damage in detail,” said the CM, adding, “Highways will be cleared by Monday, power restoration in rural areas will take another day. By tomorrow, water and electricity supply will be restored.” While advising people to be patient, Sawant assured that relief will be provided to all those who have faced crop loss and also to those whose houses, vehicles etc are damaged through disaster management funds and also through CM relief fund if the need be.
While asserting that there was no major impact of the cyclone on GMC where hundreds of Covid 19 affected are undergoing treatment, CM mentioned that other hospitals too did not face serious issues. When queried over reports related to water entering GMC and super specialty block and to issues at SPM stadium, Sawant said, “With cyclones of such intensity, minor issues are bound to occur.”
