MARGAO
Margao Municipal Council’s congested market is in the news these days. Considered the stronghold of the Ajgaonkars, the market area has seen the recent visits by Margao MLA Digambar Kamat, Margao Municipal Chairperson Lyndon Pereira, leaders of the vegetable vendors Rajendra Ajgaonkar and newly-elected ward Councilor Dr Ronita, a sibling of the Ajgaonkars.
If Margao MLA Digambar Kamat descended on the market with MMC chairperson Lyndon Pereira in tow to take stock of the situation in the market around the building, Rajendra along with daughter Dr Ronita made their presence felt in the vegetable market to prepare a plan to spruce up the market.
With the first ordinary meeting of the civic body scheduled next week, Dr Ronita has proposed a host of works to bring about a turnaround in the market by proposing pavers in and around the market.
She has also proposed replacement of the sheets of the existing sheds by raising their heights and has also proposed extension of the sheds near the Gandhi market.
Last week, Dr Ronita’s father Rajendra had descended on the market with the MMC Chairperson for an inspection of the market.
Even as the politicians who matter the most make their repeated presence in the market, shoppers may finally enjoy a breathing space in the congested Margao Municipal owned Gandhi market if the proposals are all implemented by the Civic body.
