The makeshift barricades erected at the Uskiniarik culvert at Cuncolim on the NH-66 have fallen, but the promise of a concrete retaining wall at the accident-prone zone is yet to take shape to date.
As many as five traffic barricades were erected at the Uskiniarik culvert over two months ago, cautioning motorists on the busy highway, after the wall was knocked down by a speeding fish truck in a midnight accident.
A visit to the site revealed that two of the three traffic barricades have fallen and no authority has bothered to re-erect the barricades in the interest of the travelling public.
Earlier this month, the PWD, National Highway had informed that the estimates for the repair work amounting to Rs 4 lakh have gone for government’s approval. Till date, however, the ground reality remains unchanged, with the delay in repairing the damaged concrete side wall of the culvert posing danger to motorists.
“When the road accidents are on the rise due to faulty and bad roads, here is a case where motorists, two-wheelers and four-wheelers can straightaway land in a rivulet in the absence of the side wall,” remarked a motorist.
