Goenchea Ramponkarancho Ekvott (GRE), Goencho Ekvott member Orville Dourado, former minister Alina Saldanha and others associations on Monday remembered former minister late Matanhy Saldanha on his 74th birth anniversary.
A ceremony was conducted to garland the statue of Matanhy Saldanha at the Cansaulim Market Circle.
“It’s almost a decade now since late Matanhy Saldanha left us but the fishing community of Goa and India will never forget his 40 years of dedicated service to our community in Goa, India, and to the world,” said GRE President Agnelo Rodrigues.
He also stated that Matanhy was against destructive mega projects like double tracking, mega housing, etc which the state is trying to set up despite opposition from a large section of the society.
“We appeal to the State government to withdraw all projects which is against the interest of Goans and the State. If Matanhy were alive, he would have fought tooth and nail to see that these projects were scrapped,” said Rodrigues.
GRE General Secretary Olencio Simoes stated that Goa had lost a dedicated warrior whose only goal was only to save Goa and Goans.
