In recent years, the results of competitive exams such as UPSC, JEEs and NEET have become newsworthy events. Some of the toppers go on to achieve celebrity status, with many of them almost entering local folklore. Unfortunately, Goans don't feature much in such lists.
Although many Goans do achieve many academic and professional feats, they still don't appear prominently in the top competitive exams. With special efforts from the government, these things can be achieved.
The Goa government invests a substantial amount in running educational institutes in the state, a little more focused on preparing the Goan talent for such competitive exams would go a long way. Investments in education always bring returns through alumni engagements.
Very few in the state have access and awareness about such opportunities, a government effort in this could be as successful as the cyber age scheme. A generation or two later, Goa will also be known as the land of scholars. Sincere hope is that the present day government will invest in this instead of the already saturated tourism industry.
