MAPUSA: A man was caught red-handed while accepting illegal matka bets in an open public space in Calangute market on Tuesday.
The accused, identified as Raju Turi (32), a resident of Naikawado, Calangute, and a native of Bokaro, Jharkhand was apprehended by the Calangute Police near Dilkhush Hotel.
Acting on a complaint, officers discovered two gambling slips, two blue carbon papers, a ballpoint pen and Rs 1,400 in cash in Turi’s possession.
Turi was arrested under Section 11(2)(a) of the Goa, Daman and Diu Public Gambling Act, 1976. He was later released on bail the same evening.
