PANAJI

Goa Children's Court on Thursday granted conditional bail to 36-year-old Chandrahas Rane of Kalmamal in Borim-Ponda, who was accused of blackmailing budding female models, including minor girls, and forcing them to send their revealing photos to him online.

The Court had previously rejected bail to Rane on two occasions. The conditions of the bail include a Rs 30,000 bail bond and one surety.

Rane has been asked to depose before the investigating officer on every Monday from 9 am to 12 pm till the evidence of the victims is recorded. He has been ordered not to leave the country without prior permission of the Court.

The Court has also ordered him to refrain from influencing the witnesses and victims. Cyber crime police have identified at least 29 victims based on the evidence gathered from Rane's email address.

After the mother of one victim lodged a complaint, Rane was booked under the Information Technology Act and Goa Children’s Act and was arrested on September 22 by the cybercrime police.
