MARGAO
Cuncolim police have registered a cheating case against unknown persons for impersonating officials of the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) and allegedly forcing a complainant to transfer Rs 1.49 lakh.
In his complaint, Antonio Dsilva of Assolna stated that on July 27, unknown persons contacted him on WhatsApp, posing as GCZMA officials.
Taking advantage of the complainant’s business-related limitations, the accused allegedly induced him to make payments totalling Rs 1,49,500.
Believing their claims to be genuine, Dsilva transferred the amount through multiple online transactions to accounts provided by the accused, following which he realised that he had been cheated.
A case has been registered under Sections 318(4) and 319(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
