Prashant alias Bala Naik was on Monday elected unopposed as Sarpanch of Mandrem.
The post had fallen vacant following the resignation of Adv Amit Sawant a fortnight ago.
At a special meeting in the panchayat office, Naik was the lone applicant to the post and he was declared elected unopposed.
Others present at the meeting included Deputy Sarpanch Tara Hadfadkar, former sarpanch and panch member Amit Sawant, panch members Chetana Pednekar, Kiran Sawant, Rajesh Manjarekar, Miguel Fernandes, Robert Fernandes and Roshal Fernandes.
The newly elected Sarpanch Bala Naik assured that he would work for the development of all 11 wards equally.
