On the auspicious occasion of International Women’s Day, Dr. Sweta Gaonkar and her family unveiled Shallots Bawarchi Restaurant in Alto Porvorim. Managed by Anis Ansari, the restaurant expands its presence with existing branches in Panaji, near Church Square, and Borda, known as Jackson’s Bawarchi, both fully operational.
The grand opening ceremony received blessings and was presided over by the Tourism Minister and Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte. Despite her busy medical practice across Goa, Dr Sweta, an anaesthetist by profession, pursued her culinary passion to establish Shallots Bawarchi.
Anis Ansari, renowned for his expertise in biryani, brings his culinary prowess to the new venture. The event witnessed a turnout of over 1,000 attendees from various parts of Goa, with a significant representation from South Goa, including Vasco, Marcaim, Shiroda, and Margao, owing to the venue’s proximity to the Goa Assembly Complex and the South Goan roots of Dr. Sweta and Anis.
During the challenging times of the Covid-19 pandemic, Dr. Sweta Gaonkar successfully managed the Panaji outlet with the assistance of Dhiren, Neeta, and other dedicated staff, alongside her brother-in-law’s support.
Furthermore, Dr. Sweta has been actively involved in philanthropic activities, contributing to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund at Ravindra Bhavan, Sanquelim, and participating in various charitable groups, including the Mallikarjun Self Help Group in Kundaim.
