PONDA
A month after two cases were registered against him, the absconding suspended priest of Mangueshi temple Dhanajay Bhave surrendered before the JMFC at Ponda and has been remanded to two days in police custody.
It may be recalled that month ago, Bhave had filed the first anticipatory bail following an FIR against him on charges of outraging the modesty of a woman pursuing medical studies in the US.
Later, another victim, who is also based in Mumbai, had filed similar a complaint against Bhave. He had sought anticipatory bail in the second case as well.
He initially had got interim bail, but it was later cancelled after local court in Ponda had rejected his bail applications.
Bhave was absconding and had filed an anticipatory bail in high court, but both bail applications were dismissed.
Police then issued a lookout notice against the suspended priest.
Sources informed that Bhave surrendered before the JMFC at Ponda on Tuesday and also moved an interim bail application. The hearing took place and it was subsequently rejected. He was then taken into custody by Ponda police.
“He has been sent to two days in police custody,” a source said. Ponda police is further investigating the case.
