Manisha Chopdekar was elected unopposed as the new sarpanch of Chimbel at a special meeting held in the panchayat on Friday.
The post was vacant on account of the ouster of former sarpanch Chandrakant Kunkolkar after seven panchas had moved a no-confidence motion against him. Incidentally, at the no-confidence motion Kunkolkar too had voted in favour of the motion to oust him and the motion was passed by record 11-0 votes.
At the sarpanch’s election, all 11 panchas including former sarpanch Kunkolkar remained present and extended their support to the new sarpanch.
After her election, Chopdekar informed that her priority would be to see that the issue of a school, playground and hall for the panchayat becomes a reality.
However, when questioned on the garbage crisis facing the panchayat due to which the High Court had pulled up the panchayat, Chopdekar said that she would decide on the matter after discussing the same with the other members.
After her elevation to the post of sarpanch, now the deputy sarpanch’s post which was held by Chopdekar has fallen vacant.
Extension Officer Village Panchayat Mahesh Kuttikar was the presiding officer for the election and panchayat secretary Rajendra Gawas assisted him.
