Rail traffic on the Konkan railway route was badly affected on Friday due to the rising waters between Chiplum and Ratnagiri and on account of the landslide at Dudhsagar this morning.
Only the local Vasco-Kullem passenger train ran on the tracks on Friday, with most of the other trains running on the KR track, either cancelled on re-scheduled.
Following the rising water between Chiplum and Ratnagiri, long-distance trains running on the KR track were diverted on Thursday via Londa. However, operations on the route were suspended following the landslide at Dudhsagar which resulted in the derailment of the train this morning.
Konkan railway senior officer, Baban Ghatge informed that only a lone train ran and operated from Margao to Trivandrum as a special train as it carried the train passengers stranded because of the derailment of the train this morning.
The train departed from the Margao railway station at 7 pm with the stranded passengers and is heading to Trivandrum, he added.
“Running of all trains on the KR track is either cancelled or diverted in view of the situation”, he added.
