VALPOI: Many villages in Sattari taluka are facing acute water shortage for the last three days due to sudden breakdown in mechanism at Dabose water treatment plant.
The Dabose water treatment plant is known to meet drinking needs in 70% of the villages in Sattari taluka. But for the last three days, people from various parts of Sattari taluka are facing shortage of drinking water, as their taps are running dry.
According to sources, only one pump is in operation, while the other two pumps needs maintenance. The pump, which is in operation, does not suck water as per its capacity and many pipelines supplying water to various locations cannot supply sufficient quantity of water. Many pipelines are running dry and people are facing water shortage for the last three days.
Sources said some villages are supplied water in water tankers, but people from many villages like Koparde, Pali, Thane, Golavali, Hivre, Charavane, Nagargao, Sonal, Ambede, Khotoda and other areas have expressed concern over the situation.
Efforts to contact the in-charge of Dabose water treatment plant failed, but when contacted assistant engineer Valpoi water supply department Eknath Paste, he said he was on leave for the eight days but added that the problem will be resolved as early as possible.
