MAPUSA: Mapusa Police arrested a 17-year-old native of Uttar Pradesh on charges of raping a 17-year-old girl from Mandrem in his rented room at Karaswaddo-Mapusa on Saturday. The accused has been sent to the remand home at Merces.
According to Mapusa Police, the accused called the victim girl to Mapusa and later took her to his rented room in Karaswaddo and allegedly raped her. The girl's family members started searching for her and learnt that their daughter was in Karaswaddo. Later, the family members reported the incident to Mapusa Police, who rushed to the site and apprehended the accused.
Police further informed that when both the victim and the accused were taken to the police station, it was disclosed that the girl was raped.
Acting on the victim mother's complaint, Mapusa Police arrested the accused boy under Sections 363, 376 of IPC and 4, 8,12 of POCSO Act and the accused was later sent to remand home at Merces.
PSI Yogendra Garudi is further investigating the case.
