The Shree Bodgeshwar Shetkari Sangh, Mapusa has condemned the administration of Mapusa for failing to save the land of farmers from open loot and plunder by vested interests.
“Illegal mud filling is going on in our fields and at other places in Mapusa in the name of widening of roads and development,” said Sanjay Barde, President of Shree Bodgeshwar Shetkari Sangh.
The Shetkari Sangh questioned the deputy collector for remaining a mute spectator to the rampant land filling and other illegal activities happening in Mapusa.
“We expected the Deputy Collector of Bardez to be a saviour of all legal activities and the custodian of public utility land in the villages and municipal areas. However, in spite of having mamlatdars and talathis at your disposal, illegalities are going in your jurisdiction and you are a mute spectator,” the president said, in a memorandum addressed to the deputy collector, Pundalik Korjuvenkar.
“There is land-filling happening right under the nose of the deputy collector, but no action has been initiated,” said Barde, pointing to the land-filling behind the deputy collector’s building.
The memorandum also points out to huge constructions that have sprouted on the suburbs of Mapusa in areas which were once fields. The Shetkari Sangh also strongly opposed the State government’s plan to implement the Down Town Scheme in Mapusa.
“The Down Town Scheme is a big land scam to grab over 20 lakh sq mts of low lying agricultural land of poor farmers and to convert the entire area into a concrete jungle in the name of comprehensive and holistic development without proper planning in place,” the Sangh said.
