With stress on infra development, the Mapusa Development Front (MDF) has promised speedy development of proposed state of the art bus-stand including multi-level parking facility, Ravindra Bhavan, new Tar Bridge and sewerage system in Mapusa.

Interestingly, the MDF promised to regularise unauthorised constructions and further proposed rehabilitation schemes in Mapusa.

At least 50 percent of the promises made in the MDF’s manifesto are a repeat of assurances made by the Front in its 2015 vision document and the Mapusa MLA in his by-election manifesto.

The MDF’s election manifesto/vision document was released on Friday by State BJP President, Sadanand Tanavade and former CM Laxmikant Parsekar in the presence of Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza and Aldona MLA Glenn Ticlo.

Chairman of the manifesto committee Sandip Falari and Convenor of MDF Rupesh Kamat were also present.

The manifesto made the oft-repeated promise of providing stable, clean and efficient administration and ensure smooth coordination between various government departments for speedy development of Mapusa.

“Our focus was on providing stable administration, infrastructure development and human resource development,” said Sandeep Falari, chairman of the manifesto committee.

The vision document emphasised easing of traffic congestion and ensuring smooth flow of traffic in the city.

The Front also said that it will take steps to ensure benefits under “Atmanirbhar Bharat, Swayampurna Goem” reach to targeted beneficiaries.

Upgradation of infrastructure of Mapusa market, restoration of North Zone Comunidade office building, development of playground at Cunchelim, St Xavier’s College and Saraswat ground in Khorlim and development of open spaces into gardens and parks were some other highlights of the manifesto.

“The focus will be on speedy and all round development of the city. We want to ensure regular maintenance of roads and street lights,” said Joshua D’Souza, Mapusa MLA.

Among many other features mentioned in the manifesto include to find a solution for the stray dog menace, provide outlet for sale of products prepared by Mahila SHGs and soft skill training including career guidance for schools and colleges.

D’Souza said that only the BJP-backed panel has fielded in every ward in Mapusa Municipal Council.

“This shows that only our panel is serious in contesting the civic election as we have given representation in all the wards,” he said.

Former chief minister and observer for Mapusa, Laxmikant Parsekar said the voters of Mapusa are matured and have always elected BJP in the constituency.

“For serious and sustainable development people should elect MDF candidates,” Parsekar said.
