The government has given a green signal to the Mapusa Municipal Council's (MMC) proposal to rehabilitate the 13 stalls located alongside the road, paving way to widen the road from Gandhi Square to Parra.
According to sources, these stalls will be accommodated on the first floor of a building near the inter-state bus stand.
It may be recalled that on November 30, 2015, MMC had passed a resolution to shift 13 stalls and decided to give an area of 16 sq mtrs to each stall owner. The proposal was sent to the Urban Development Department. However, the department citing High Court's judgment had refused to sanction the proposal.
If MMC had to decide to act as per the High Court judgment, then it would be impossible to rehabilitate the stalls. Hence, some councillors in a council meeting suggested to rehabilitate the stalls.
MMC Chairperson Rohan Kavlekar said: "After rehabilitation of the stalls, the road widening work of the Mapusa-Parra road will be taken up."
