The Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) on Wednesday unanimously resolved to seek 15-days more time to file objections and suggestions to the land use map and register to prepare the outline development plan for Mapusa.
The MMC in another resolution has also requested the North Goa Planning and Development Authority (NGPDA) to retain both the football and cricket grounds in Cunchelim as per the old ODP.
Incidentally, the planning authority has shown only the football ground in the land use map and register for Mapusa.
“The council has requested the North Goa Planning and Development Authority to grant 15 more days for raising our objections/suggestions to the land use map and register of Mapusa planning area,” said Ryan Braganza, Chairperson of MMC.
A special council meeting was held on Wednesday in the MMC hall to discuss suggestions for the land use map and register of Mapusa planning area.
The chairperson said that the NGPDA Member Secretary, R K Pandita has assured to provide all PT Sheets to the council.
“PT sheets will be provided to the council for detail study and the council will have to pay the cost for the printing of the same,” he said.
Braganza also said that the NGPDA has also promised to allow the final plan to be displayed in the council before it was put for government approval.
Later speaking to the media the chairperson said blaming the NGPDA for errors was not correct and it was the right of every individual to check the map and raise objections or offer suggestions.
“The plan is drafted by the NGPDA. It’s our job to protect our right. We have to study the plan and accordingly offer objections/suggestions. We cannot blame the authority for some names that have been deleted…you have to go and raise an objection,” he said.
“You have to safeguard your interest. There may be some mistakes here or there. Those who file objections should do it with proper documents,” he added.
NGPDA Member Secretary, R K Pandita who was present for the council meeting said that he has asked the council to give their request in writing.
“I have requested the council to take a resolution and give us in writing. I will place the request before the authority and the chairman for their decision,” Pandita said.
Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza and senior councillor Sandip Falari who is a member of NGPDA were also present for the meeting.
Most of the councillors were also present for the special council meeting.
