Mapusa Court - 16COR-MAP03

MAPUSA

A Mapusa court on Tuesday dismissed the bail application moved by three of the five accused in the Calangute gang-rape case.

The three accused - Jeevan Pawar, Trevor Joseph and Kamlesh Chaudary - had moved an application for bail before the Additional Sessions Court at Mapusa.

Opposing the bail, Anjuna Police said that since the accused were non-Goans there is a threat to the life of the two victims, further stating that they could also harass and influence the witnesses. The police also informed the court that two more accused are yet to be arrested.

It may be recalled two Delhi-based women were allegedly gang-raped and assaulted by five men who posed as officers of the anti-narcotic cell, in Calangute. Judge Vijaya Pol presided over the bail hearing.
