A fatal attraction earned an Assonora man a 17-month jail term.
Five years ago, accused Sunil Mane, who was then a room boy, entered into a hotel room in Arpora at 4 am in a bid to rob. As he made his way into the room, his eyes set on the sleeping honeymoon couple. The focus then shifted from the robbery to the woman. He slowly tiptoed to the bed and started feeling the woman all over.
The startled husband-wife duo awoke and managed to catch hold of the accused. He was later over to the police.
On Monday, a Mapusa court convicted the accused for outraging the modesty and criminal trespass and sent him to jail for 17 months.
A Judicial Magistrate First Class court sentenced him to 14 months rigorous imprisonment and Rs 10,000 fine under Section 354 for outraging modesty.
He was handed additional three months jail term and Rs 5,000 fine under Section 457 for house trespassing.
The then PI Manjunath Desai was the investigation officer in the case who was assisted by PSI Anand Gaunkar and ASI Sham Naik.
The prosecution was led by Assistant Public Prosecutors Neeta Marathe and Jennifer Santamaria. JMFC Judge, Dvijpal Patkar presided over the case.
